I never thought you’d leave me standing.
I never thought I’d be here alone.
I never thought you cared about the glory.
Now you take your place upon the throne.
Where are you when the dream is over?
Will you know how to sleep again?
You never felt so tired and sober.
Will your waking state ever end?
There comes a time when we must face the truth and stop the dreaming,
And look upon the Future Shock.
Not knowing when to do it, how to see it, or when to wake up.
It’s all just part of a Future Shock.
You make the feeble pray to minyans.
Then you make the priests pay you well.
All this power for a madman.
So much greed for a soul to sell.
And now you see that the dream is over.
Do you see that this is the end?
You feel so sick and all hung over.
What would you give to sleep again?
Holding on, you grasp for all that’s sacred.
On an angel’s wing and a serpent’s prayer.
No more freedom for the faithless.
You’ve been cast out, that’s your cross to bear.
You can’t believe that the dream is over.
Did you really think it would never end?
The cost of life couldn’t get much lower.
There’s no more ego to defend.
There comes a time when we must face the truth and stop the dreaming,
And look upon the Future Shock.
Not knowing when to do it, how to see it, or when to wake up.
It’s all just part of a Future Shock.
